QUESTION POSED ON: 10 September 2007
I am running an NT domain to which four new Windows 2003 servers are attached as standalone servers. I want to move to Active Directory. What would be the best approach? (I cannot upgrade the NT Primary Domain Controller (PDC) server because I have a proprietary application that I can't replace.)

EXPERT RESPONSE
Install a new NT server within your NT domain and promote it to be the PDC on your network, so that your existing server becomes the Backup Domain Controller. You can then upgrade your new PDC to Windows Server 2003 Active Directory. Keep in mind that your Active Directory domain will need to remain in Windows Server 2003 Interim Mode until you can retire or upgrade the NT domain controller.
