QUESTION POSED ON: 12 May 2005
Whenever I try to open an application I get this error message: 'Whatever.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program.' Now I can't load anything because of this. Can you help?

EXPERT RESPONSE
Ouch. Hard to say what the root cause is with just that information. If you're running Windows 2000 or XP, try running the system file checker utility. Log in as Administrator, open a command prompt (or go to the run command) and type in sfc /scannow This utility checks the integrity of all of your protected system files, and will replace any that are corrupt. You may need your OS CD, and a source location for your current Service Pack installation files.
